The ADRs and vehicle standards regulations say that the electrical connections between trucks and trailers can comply with AS4735, ISO1185 or SAEJ560.
The problem is that the Australian and International standards allocate contact 7 differently.
In Australia, contact 7 is used for trailer reversing lights, alarms and dock radar. In Europe, the contact is used for trailer brake control.
As a result, the reversing warnings on a trailer don’t work when it is connected to an incompatible prime mover.
This session has been convened to discuss the incompatible standards and work out a consistent approach for Australia.
